What We Do

Upcycling traditions from the Age of Sail to help young people live their lives with courage, compassion, grace, and joy.

Our Mission

We provide hands-on experiences to help young people bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood.

We live in a digital age that produces many spectators, but too few participants. Children are taught to sit and watch, but we need them to grow into adults who can create, build, and lead.

Our mission is to teach young people they are mighty and capable. The tools we use are boats, the wind, and the waves.

“You’ve got the makings of greatness in you, but you’ve got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls.”

— Long John Silver, Treasure Planet

Why old boats?

  • Traditional wooden boats are great classrooms.

  • They can be built, sailed, maintained, and repaired with hand tools and basic materials.

  • They connect us with our past, so we can understand how we got here, and where we’re going.

  • They need a crew and demand teamwork.

  • Nothing about this is point-and-click.

  • They take you beyond the horizon to teach us self-reliance.

  • Life slows down on an old boat, providing opportunities to connect with ourselves and others.

  • They’re magical.
